premier album dEMMA ST-DENIS
(Montréal, le 10 août 2006) Cet album de musique folk hybride nous mène tantôt dans la dérision, tantôt dans l adversité, dans un désir de voir, d entendre et de comprendre l autre, dans les similitudes,mais surtout dans les différences qui nous unissent à l humanité pour vaincre ensemble l oppression et le fatalisme.
Avec ce premier album bilingue ’’Red Handed’’, distribué par LOCAL/SOPREF, l auteure-compositrice et interprète Emma St-Denis désire lever le voile sur la violence, prendre en flagrant délit l’agresseur et mettre à jour les violences quotidiennes vécues par tous, qu elles soient d ordre sexuel, physique, psychologique, économique, linguistique, racial, homophobe ou même médiatique.
Emma St-Denis est dérangeante parfois, rebelle souvent, mais surtout perpétuellement en mouvement. Ses multiples centres d-intérêt explosent en une symphonie éclectique, mais jamais cacophonique. Artiste engagée, intense « performeuse » et auteure-compositrice, elle explore la fragilité et la noirceur de l-humain dans un esprit revendicateur, portant ainsi les causes qui lui sont chères,notamment le féminisme. Les mots, chez elle, résonnent étrangement, comme empreints d-une douleur intérieure profonde
Une jeune artiste dont le parcours dans le monde artistique et littéraire a commencé très tôt. Dès 1987, à l-âge de treize ans, elle s-est immergée dans la création musicale et théâtrale, en participant au Festival Réalité jeunesse, ainsi que dans l écriture, s-illustrant par l-obtention de 3 prix littéraires (1987, 1989, 1993). Elle a, par ailleurs, participé au programme de parrainage de l Union des Ecrivains et des Écrivaines du Québec, où elle a pu explorer le travail des mots en profondeur, avec l-auteure Carole David.

(Montreal, June 20, 2006) Touching at times on both ridicule and adversity, this hybrid folk album explores our desire to see, hear and understand those around us in all our similarities and-perhaps even more importantly-in the differences that bind us to the rest of humanity in our struggle against oppression and fatalism.
In the talented author-composer s first bilingual album, Red Handed (-Flagrant Délit-), distributed by LOCAL/SOPREF, Emma St-Denis seeks to expose violence, catch aggressors in the act and turn the spotlight on the violence that constantly plagues us all, whether it is sexual, physical, psychological, economic, linguistic, racial, orhomophobic, or even intellectual violence propagated by the media.
Emma St-Denis is unsettling at times, and often rebellious. But most importantly she is always on the move. With this album, her many interests come together in a symphony that is eclectic, to be sure, but never cacophonous. Deeply committed to social justice, this intense performer examines the fragility and darkness of mankind, demanding we take action and standing up for causes important to her, feminism chief among them. Her words resonate strangely, as if echoing with some profound and deeply felt pain.
Emma St-Denis is a young artist who got off to an early start in the world of art and literature. Back in 1987, at the age of 13, she plunged headfirst into the world of music and theatre, taking part in the Festival Réalité Jeunesse, and the world of writing, which honoured her with three literary awards (in 1987, 1989 and 1993). Emma St-Denis also took part in the mentoring program sponsored by the Union des Écrivains et des Écrivaines du Québec, undertaking her own in-depth exploration of the power or words with author Carole David.
