Quand la vie nous donne à entendre ses mystères et que les conteurs nous
confient leurs secrets...

Pour la première fois, la Maison internationale du conte s¹associe avec Les
Contes du dragon pour vous offrir une soirée en anglais dans sa
programmation régulière. Cette soirée sera animée par Stéphanie Bénéteau et
les conteurs invités seront accompagnés par Sébastien Leblanc, jeune
violoniste très talentueux du Nouveau-Brunswick, membre du groupe La Virée.

Eric Gauthier has loved strange stories ever since he was a child. He
started telling his own creations in 1999 at the Sergent recruteur in
Montreal; since then, his tales have taken him as far as and the
Yukon. He knows how to find myths and wonders in the midst of day-to-day
life. His short stories and his collection of tales Terre des pigeons
(Planète rebelle) have brought him a few awards, including the Grand Prix de
la science-fiction et du fantastique québécois.

Margaret Nicolaï has been telling stories for many years - to little people,
bigger people, their mothers and grandmothers. Her repertoire ranges from
"simple" folktales to epics such as the Illiad and The Mahabaratha. She has
told at schools and festivals. What she loves most about storytelling is the
joy that it brings to teller and listeners.

Dylan Spevack-Willcock has been lying ever since he can remember but he has
been calling it storytelling for the last six years. He is co-author of the
book/CD You Don't Know Jack. Dylan has told stories in , the and
the . His goal is to tell a story on every continent, including
Antarctica. He lives in Montreal.

CHRISTINE FLIESEN
VERNISSAGE DE SON EXPOSITION DE PEINTURE

Longtemps influencée par les maîtres impressionnistes que sont Monet, Renoir
et Manet, elle est maintenant davantage attirée par les surréalistes tels
Magritte, Ernst, Dali, Delvaux et par les « Abstraitistes » tels Pollack et
Riopelle. Elle a gardé des impressionnistes l¹attrait de la lumière et du
mouvement, toujours présents dans ses toiles, tandis que les surréalistes ne
renieraient pas ses paysages imaginaires. «Pourtant, mes paysages viennent
souvent de la réalité, précise-t-elle. Je m'inspire volontiers de mes
voyages ou des photos que j'en rapporte. Mais quand je travaille à partir
d'une photo, je vais chercher le jeu d'ombre pour laisser aller mon
imagination et en faire un élément principal du décor. Ou bien, je laisse
exprimer mon inconscient à partir d¹images non définies telles une tache ou
un artéfact sur une surface. Ce que j¹imagine est donc retranscrit en
formes, couleurs et lumière pour donner souvent un paysage onirique avec des
personnages imbriqués dans les paysages. La lumière est toujours présente
».

Programme folk en deux parties, une provenant de Toronto, l¹autre de la
France!

William & Polly share a love of singing the harmonies and up-front lyrics of
the American-British traditional songbook, and of just about any
well-crafted pop tune, as long as it has a genius melody. Especially if it
happens to be a murder ballad. They are influenced, poisoned if you will, by
those who can take the straightforward and twist it to their ends; see the
Be Good Tanyas, Bonnie "Prince" Billy et al, those who have helped to
resurrect the fine and clear songs of the old days, those prayers of love,
despair, and jealousy, petitions to God or the lover to release the singer
from hell and if you're going to kill me, please be quick. William & Polly
are now writing and compiling material for their first record, which will be
called "The Night Walkers".
